High School Foreign Language
A student’s first encounter with a different language is on a children’s television show or in elementary school. From there they are introduced to language basics and build upon those skills until they are able to converse fluently and confidently. The process of learning a new language includes:
- Learning the basics which includes formal versus informal usage, subject pronouns, verb conjugation, forming plurals, contractions, indefinite articles, basic sentence construction, date and time, cultural specific holidays, etc.
- Interpersonal modes of communication where students initiate, participate in oral and written exchange.
- Interpretive modes of language communication where students are able to identify main ideas and interpret cultural specific information as they interpret verbal and non verbal cues to differeniate between complex sentences and questions.
